Resumen

La siguiente revisión histórica resalta personajes ilustres que contribuyeron -no solamente con un aporte a la medicina- sino con cambios de pensamiento que llevaron a que floreciera la cirugía, y por ellos hoy en día contamos con diferentes paradigmas quirúrgicos y médicos en la cirugía moderna. Presentamos un resumen de 22 epónimos, sus vidas, aportes y datos curiosos desde 1577 hasta la modernidad, que buscan inspirar a las generaciones de médicos y cirujanos en formación. Esta revisión subdivide los epónimos incluidos en tres momentos históricos: cirugía en europa (XVI-XVII), cirugía tardía (XVIII-XIX) y cirugía moderna (XX-XXI).
